Workwear size labels: keep a better repeat-order note

Record the exact brand, garment, colour and retailer size label before reordering workwear, then recheck the selected option and price.

When you replace a familiar workwear item, “the larger one in black” is a frustrating starting point. A useful repeat-order note connects the exact garment to its colour, retailer label and the option you actually chose. It also leaves room for a fresh decision when the replacement differs.

The examples below use labels including 2XL, XXL and 3XL. Copy those spellings as shown. Wait for the relevant brand’s evidence before treating different labels as equivalent.

Write an identity line before a size line

Start with the saved order confirmation and the garment’s own label, if you have them. Record the brand, full product name, style code where supplied, colour name and size label. Save the product page alongside that line. A screenshot can preserve the combination you selected when the page later opens on a different default.

The navy-blue Portwest Men’s Food Coat One Pocket illustrates why the identity matters. The supplier describes the style as Portwest 2202 and its selector includes XXL and 3XL. A note headed “Portwest 2202 / Navy Blue” gives the size label a specific home. Keep your actual ordered label on the same line.

Keep the exact label on a different garment

Use a separate record when you move between coats and trousers, even within a work wardrobe. A successful coat order does not settle which trouser option to choose. Before ordering, open the exact trouser listing and check its own size information. If a measurement or length is unclear, ask about that style and label rather than filling the gap from memory.

For the Delta Plus MCPA2 trousers, keep MCPA2, Grey/Black and the selected label together. The reviewed page uses XXL and 3XL. Preserve those terms in your note; avoid replacing XXL with your preferred shorthand. If you request more information, this identity line also helps the retailer answer about the intended garment.

Recheck the option before comparing the cost

Record the displayed price only after choosing the intended colour and size. Changing the selected label can change the price, so pause and read the updated amount before comparing it with a previous purchase. Check whether VAT and delivery are included in the total you are comparing. An old price is a record of that order, not a promise for the next one.

The reviewed black Henbury Unisex Zip-Through Cardigan uses 2XL and 3XL labels. When comparing those options, keep the chosen label beside its displayed price. You can then distinguish a price change from a change in what you selected. A quick note of the date makes that comparison more useful later.

Copy a six-line note for your next order

Copy this example into your phone and replace the details with your chosen item. Keep it beside the saved product page or confirmation.

My fit notes/questions: record what to repeat or ask

Before repeating the order, read the new basket line against your note. Check brand, style, colour, label and quantity. If you intentionally choose a different garment, save a separate note so you keep the record of the original.

Leave your future self a useful decision

After the garment arrives, add a specific observation: the underlayer you tried, where you wanted more room, or whether the length suited your plans. On the next order, decide what you want to repeat and what needs another question. For help with the chart-reading stage, see our guide to reading men’s size charts.
